Which TV is right for your room?

OLED, RGB, Mini LED, QLED and Crystal UHD in plain English. Pick by the room it is going in, not by the name on the box.

The short answer

Start with the room. The right kind of screen follows from how bright it is and how you use it.

A movie room you can darken

Go OLED. Black is truly black, so films look the way they should. See the OLED TVs

A bright living room

Go Mini LED or RGB. Both stay bright and clear with the blinds open. See the Mini LED TVs

The biggest screen you can fit

Mini LED and RGB come in 98, 100 and 115 inch sizes, for a projector-size picture with no projector. See the RGB TVs

A bedroom or guest room

Crystal UHD or QLED. A sharp 4K picture at the lowest price. See these TVs

A TV that looks like art

An art TV shows a painting when it’s off, so it suits a fireplace wall. See The Frame Pro

The lanai or patio

Use a weather-rated outdoor TV, not an indoor one. See The Terrace

The four kinds of screen

What each one does well, and what to know before you buy.

OLED

Best for movie nights and theater rooms

  • Every pixel makes its own light and can switch fully off, so black is truly black
  • Looks right from any seat, even off to the side
  • Very thin, so it sits close to the wall

Good to know: not as bright as the others in a very sunny room.

We sell: Sony BRAVIA 8 II and 8, Samsung S95H, S90H and S85H, LG W6, G6, C6 and B6.

RGB Newest

Best for bright rooms and big screens

  • Separate red, green and blue LEDs light the screen, for purer, richer color
  • Bright enough to hold up with the blinds open
  • Sizes up to 115 inches

Good to know: Sony calls it True RGB. Samsung and LG call it Micro RGB.

We sell: Sony BRAVIA 9 II and 7 II, Samsung Micro RGB R95H and R85H, LG Micro RGB evo and TCL RM9L.

Mini LED

Best for daytime sports and the biggest sizes

  • Thousands of tiny LEDs light the picture in small zones
  • A bright, punchy picture in a sunny Florida room
  • The most screen for the money at 98 and 100 inches

Good to know: blacks are very good, though OLED still does them best.

We sell: Samsung Neo QLED and Mini LED, The Frame Pro, Sony BRAVIA 5, LG QNED, and TCL X11L and QM series.

Crystal UHD and QLED

Best for bedrooms and guest rooms

  • Everyday 4K TVs with a standard LED backlight
  • QLED adds a layer of Quantum Dots for richer color
  • Sizes from 32 to 100 inches

Good to know: less brightness and contrast than the other three.

We sell: Samsung Crystal UHD, QLED and The Frame, LG Nano UHD and UHD, Sony BRAVIA 3 II and 2 II.

Questions people ask

Is OLED better than Mini LED?

In a room you can darken, yes. OLED does black best, because each pixel can switch fully off. In a very sunny room a Mini LED or RGB TV is the better pick, because it is brighter.

What is an RGB TV?

A TV lit by separate red, green and blue LEDs, where other LED TVs use white or blue ones. That gives purer, richer color on a very bright screen. Sony calls it True RGB. Samsung and LG call it Micro RGB.

What is the difference between QLED and Crystal UHD?

Both are everyday 4K TVs from Samsung with a standard LED backlight. QLED adds a layer of Quantum Dots for richer color. Crystal UHD is the lower-priced of the two.

Which TV is best for a bright Florida room?

Mini LED or RGB. Both are bright enough to hold up with the blinds open, and some models have a glare-free screen.

What size TV should I get?

It depends on the room and how far away you sit. The TVs we sell run from 32 up to 115 inches. We look at the space on a free design visit and help you pick.

Do you install the TV too?

Yes. Our own crew delivers it, mounts it, hides the wires wherever the wall allows and sets it up. See TV mounting.
